Abstract

Primigravida pregnant women's knowledge of pushing techniques during labor is important in preparing a smooth and safe birth process for both mother and baby This study aims to evaluate the level of knowledge of primigravida pregnant women about pushing techniques World Health Organization (WHO) 800 women die every day due to complications of pregnancy and childbirth around 80% of internal deaths due to increased complications during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. The global maternal mortality rate (MMR) in 2020 was 223 per 100,000 live births In Indonesia, the maternal mortality rate is also relatively high. In 2021, there were 7,389 maternal deaths in Indonesia, an increase of 56.69% from the previous year. In 2023, the maternal mortality rate was 4,129 people. The maternal mortality rate in North Sumatra in 2020 was 195 per 100,000 live births. The number of maternal mortality rates in Mandailing Natal in 2021 was 61 per 100,000 live births.

The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge of primigravida pregnant women about pushing techniques at PMB Bd. Atikah Im Batubara S. Keb sipolu polu, Panyabungan District, Mandailing Natal Regency 2025.

The population in this study was 30 people. This type of research is descriptive using primary data obtained directly from respondents through questionnaires and then calculated with the correct answers. The time of this study was conducted from November 2024 to May 2025. The results of this study based on maternal knowledge about pushing techniques, knowledge was poor as many as 18 people (60.0%), respondents had fairly good knowledge as many as 11 people (36.7%), and good respondents 1 person (3.3%).

It is recommended that primigravida pregnant women who want to give birth seek more information about bending and pushing to make it easier for mothers to give birth and can be input and additional knowledge for mothers who want to give birth.
